Fun and easy Easter activities!

The school holidays are here! In an ideal world, the kids would happily sit at home for two weeks playing nicely with each other and enjoying a sensible amount of chocolate. However, in reality we know that boredom sets in all-too-quickly, and so we have compiled a list of fun and easy activities to keep the little chicks entertained on those days where you really need it.

Easter egg Nest Cakes

An oldie but still a goodie, Easter Egg Nest Cakes are a super simple, relatively cheap and easy treat that you can whip up with the kids. They will probably eat most of the mix before you make the cakes, but at least they’re happy! A basic recipe for Easter Egg Nest Cakes is:

  • 1 bag of miniature chocolate eggs
  • 90g cornflakes
  • 100g milk chocolate
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  1. Break up the chocolate and put it into a bowl.
  2. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 10-second increments, stirring in between.
  3. Once the chocolate is melted, add the golden syrup and stir until combined.
  4. Add in the cornflakes and stir gently.
  5. Place 12 cake cases into a bun tin.
  6. Spoon the mix into cake cases and press a small well into the centre of each cake.
  7. Add three mini eggs into the well of each cake.
  8. Set in the fridge until solidified (around 30 minutes) and enjoy!

Pom-Pom Easter Bunnies

Pom-Pom Easter Bunnies are a super cute Easter decoration that the kids will love and they’re really fun to make. The items needed are also easy to source which is a bonus! To make Pom-Pom Easter Bunnies, you will need:

  • Big, white pom-poms (two pom-poms per bunny)
  • Small, pink pom-poms (two pom-poms per bunny)
  • White card or felt
  • Pink card or felt
  • PVA glue
  • Googly eyes
  1. Stick one white pom-pom on top of the other to make the bunny’s body.
  2. Cut out bunny ear shapes from the white card/felt, and then cut smaller ear shapes from the pink card/felt.
  3. Stick the pink shapes onto the white shapes to create the bunny ears.
  4. Once these are dry, stick the completed bunny ears onto the top of the bunny body.
  5. Cut out bunny foot shapes from the pink card/ felt, and then stick them onto the base of the bottom pom-pom.
  6. Stick two googly eyes onto the face of the top pom-pom to create the eyes.
  7. Stick a small pink pom-pom in the centre of the top pom-pom to create the nose
  8. Finally, turn the bunny around and stick a small pink pom-pom onto the bottom of the base to create the tail!

Mini Egg Hunt

A slight twist on the standard Easter egg hunt, a Mini Egg hunt is a great way to kill some time with the kids! You can vary the hiding places to be more or less difficult depending on age and ability, and as it can be done inside the house, you don’t need to worry about the weather. Simply hide the mini eggs, send the children on their way and let them keep hunting until all of the eggs are gone. This should definitely make the day pass quicker (for a little while at least!) and the kids will be more than happy to hunt for chocolate. We hope these activities come in handy this Easter, and remember: Regardless of what you plan to do during the break, the most important thing is to remember to enjoy yourselves! We here at Simply Education certainly will be.
