How To Get Your CV In Shape

We all know that when searching for a job, one of the most important things is getting the CV right. After all, it’s the first thing an employer will see so it’s important to make a good first impression. But it can be a challenge to make your CV stand out. We’ve compiled some useful tips to help you create a CV you’re proud to send!

 

Keep it concise

A good rule of thumb is to ensure your CV is no more than 2 A4 pages long. Ensure you only put necessary and relevant information in that highlights why you’re suited to the job role. For example, if you’re applying for a tutoring position, the school would love to hear about past experience that relates to this.

 

Present It Well

Make sure your CV has a structured layout with clear headings. Use a clean font with no unnecessary embellishment. This will make your CV easy to read and much more appealing.

 

Tailor Your CV

Research the school you’re applying to and adapt your CV to suit that role.

Taking the time to do this will make your CV much more effective and will be more likely to stand out to an employer than a generic CV.

 

Ask a Friend

Even if you’ve read through your CV 50 times, it doesn’t hurt to ask a friend to read through it as well. They may spot a spelling error you hadn’t noticed or notice if a sentence doesn’t quite sound right.

 

Stay Positive

Sometimes it can be difficult to find a positive way to talk about past experiences that didn’t go quite to plan. Try to focus on skills or progress you were able to make in a difficult situation.

 

Take Pride

Be proud of your personal achievements. Put some extra time in when writing about your greatest accomplishments. Instead of writing ‘Good with SEN Children’ try writing with a bit more detail, ‘Successfully helped a SEN Child progress in their studies’.
