Simply education s sport relief challenge

Simply Education's Sport Relief Challenge

For people who have read our blog for weekly updates, you will know that we have been absolutely smashing our target of cycling around the UK in under 7 weeks, which is the equivalent of 5000 miles in under 50 days, having cycled 3705 miles up until today. In addition, we continue to make great strides towards our £2000 target, having raised a solid £825 so far.

First and foremost, Sport Relief are a fantastic charity and do tremendous work to support people whose lives are unimaginably difficult both here in the UK and across the world’s poorest communities. In the past 2 years, the money that Sport Relief has raised has enabled 189,000 children to attend school and gain an education, assisted 16,500 people get the support they need to improve their mental health, allowed over 734,000 children to be given lifesaving vaccines and funded 23 projects that supports people living with dementia. When I read those facts on their website a couple of months, I was firstly surprised by how much support the charity can actually offer and secondly proud of how much generous our country is.

So why have we decided to do a cycling challenge for Sport Relief? Simply Education is known to have a sports-oriented environment. We also have a lot of fitness fanatics amongst our staff, who spend hours down the gym keeping fit, so when our events and marketing department met up to discuss a potential event that we could do to raise as much money as possible, it became clear quite early that we should do some sort of cycling challenge. Initially, we were thinking of doing a challenge which would involve our employees cycling the distance of all our branches, but felt that would be far too easy for us and seeing as this charity is about all of the UK and with 50% of Sport Relief’s money going to projects in the UK, decided that cycling around the whole of the UK would be far more worthy, with the strapline of 5000 miles under 50 days being striking and far more memorable.

With 3 weeks set to go in the challenge, we look set to beat our 5000 miles target in record time, so a huge well done to all of our staff members for constantly racking up the miles on a daily basis. We would like to thank of all of the kind donations from companies that we work closely with, as well as family and friends.
