Summer holidays are the most anticipated part of the year for most students, but what about teachers? Summer holidays give teachers the chance to do more than get some downtime, it’s an opportunity to completely reset the mind, body, and soul of a teacher. Let this article be a reminder that you deserve to let loose, unwind, and embrace every wonderful moment that a summer holiday has to offer.

Why You Need a Summer Holiday

You deserve it, that’s why you need a summer holiday. It's hard work being a teacher and the summer holidays are the perfect chance to let your hair down, reconnect with your friends and loved ones and create memories a summer filled with planning for the next year will not be a memorable one. By making the most of your summer downtime you’ll be re-energised and motivated once fall rolls around. Burnout is a real concern for teachers and when you’re not motivated or not looking forward to each day, your class will sense that and that will affect their motivation too. Don’t underestimate the importance of having fun and destressing.

What To Do?

Well, that’s up to you. Focus on your hobby or pursue a new one. Investing yourself in something you are interested in and have fun doing is guaranteed to make the most of your time off and enjoy every moment of it. Go on holiday for a change of pace and scenery. Separating yourself from your home and usual routine is one of the best ways to refresh your mind and body. Even if it is just for a day, there is nothing quite like getting out of the house and not needing to worry about everyday concerns. It might seem redundant to say it but relax. Sleep in, avoid stress, treat yourself and do what makes you feel relaxed and calm. It’s your time to do whatever you want and it’s important to take it slow while you catch up on some quality time for yourself. There is no harm in taking an online course and learn new skills and if there is any work you need to do to prepare for the next term then make time to do that. The important thing to prioritise during summer is doing what you want to do. Focus on fun, relaxation and self-fulfilment with your downtime and remember that a teacher is still a person and people need to rest.
