Course Description

Virtual Introduction to the Cover Supervisor Role (VICSR) – (2 days)A course squarely aimed at those wishing to become Cover Supervisors but who do not have much relevant classroom experience. It will help professionals from other trades interested in teaching to secure the requirements to allow them to work as day-to-day cover supervisors (if they meet relevant compliance standards). The course introduces key skills and raises awareness of the required qualities and latest standards / expectations of the role. It is comprised of four elements: 1) Full Safeguarding; 2) Full Behaviour Management Workshop; 3) Safer Working Practice, Cover Supervisor Role, Qualities and Skills; and 4) Useful Teaching Strategies (including the Teaching Hell Webinar about what NOT to do in the classroom). Discussion is encouraged. Day 1:Virtual Safeguarding (VSG) – (2 hrs 30 min) This is a virtual version of our full, face-to face Safeguarding Course that has been updated for 2020 and modified for online 'virtual' delivery. The aim is to give you time to ask questions and contribute, if desired. If working with children, you need to complete a full generalist safeguarding at least every three years and further remain aware of current guidance through annual updates. This course, once completed in full, will count as your three-year update. Behaviour Management WorkshopThe most common bad behaviour / low level disruption experienced by all teachers consists of calling out, chatting at inappropriate times, arriving late, asking distracting questions, tapping, rocking, anything involving make-up or telecommunications equipment or indeed any other behaviour that impedes learning. Proactive teachers create calm learning environments by being organised and having a ‘bag of tricks’ (which some call experience) to draw upon. This part of the course discusses a wide range of proven techniques to help pupils focus on their learning so that if you have been left work for a lesson which at best could be described as ‘sketchy’ or at worst ‘non-existent, then you can still create that calm and effective learning environment. The skills covered will help to reduce your stress and make your classroom a much better place to work for you and your pupils.Day 2:Safer Working PracticesThe ‘Safer Working Practices’ course builds upon the Simply Education online Safeguarding tutorial, covering a range of ways to keep yourself safe whilst working in the classroom. The Safeguarding tutorial is a mandatory expectation for all staff working in an unsupervised capacity with children or young people for Simply Education and will give a basic understanding of roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and young people as well as an understanding of some of the indicators of potential abuse that they need to be aware of and act on.Cover Supervisor Role, Qualities and SkillsThe cover supervisor role requires you to be calm and adaptable, and to be able to create an effective working environment quickly with a class that you have probably never met before. This part of the course examines the role and what effective cover supervisors are able to bring to it.‘Teaching Hell’ Webinar (Avoiding poor practice) (THW)Based on a fun summary of bad teaching practice in one of our Teaching Skills Resources called ’39 Steps to Teaching Hell’ and over 1100 lesson observations, this webinar looks to explore good teaching practice from the perspective of avoiding the poor practices included. Afterwards, we send attendees summary notes of what we think is best practice relating to each of the ‘weak strategies to avoid’. In addition, we send a record of any the Zoom ‘chats’ of added points made by a second EDM throughout each webinar. Useful Teaching StrategiesThe teaching strategies covered, if employed well, should help you minimise the need for the strong behaviour management skills covered in Part 2 of this training, and include:• Differentiation after the lesson has started• Pace• Questioning • Mastery• Quick StartersNote! Please ensure that you VIEW and ACTION the accompanying documents sent separately to this virtual training BEFORE it starts.*IMPORTANT! You will need to book on to both Day 1 and Day 2 of this course separately and complete them to gain certification. Course Description

Virtual Introduction to the Cover Supervisor Role (VICSR) – (2 days)A course squarely aimed at those wishing to become Cover Supervisors but who do not have much relevant classroom experience. The aim is to give you time to ask questions and contribute, if desired. If working with children, you need to complete a full generalist safeguarding at least every three years and further remain aware of current guidance through annual updates. Proactive teachers create calm learning environments by being organised and having a ‘bag of tricks’ (which some call experience) to draw upon. Course Description

Completion of our Virtual Introduction to Supply Teaching (VIST) course is a requirement of your registration if you are looking for teaching work with Simply Education and have either been out of teaching for three or more years or have come from overseas. The traditional face-to-face course has temporarily been replaced with this virtual version of the same two-day training. The virtual IST is comprised of four parts, all of which have been adapted for the virtual environment, with reduced duration and slightly narrowed content delivery. As such, more responsibility is given to you to supplement the learning gained virtually with the resources provided after the course, including a copy of the slides, notes pages and handouts. The four parts include:Morning - Day 1) Safer Working Practices and a new Safeguarding WebinarAfternoon - Day 1) Behaviour Management WorkshopMorning - Day 2) National Curriculum, Teaching Standards, Assessment & OfstedAfternoon - Day 2) Effective Feedback Webinar, evaluation and questions.Note!
