Teaching Assistant SEMH School

Location - Kettering

Temporary to permanent position

A local SEMH School are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join them on a full-time contract starting as soon as possible. Your new school supports students from 11- 16 years who can find mainstream education a challenge. The young people who attended have a wide range of needs which are typically associated social and emotional mental health and ASD. The school follow a very mainstream approach to the curriculum however this is tailored to the students needs.

They are looking to appoint a teaching assistant on a temporary to permanent contract starting as soon as possible to support the young people on a 1-1 basis. They are keen to hear from people from a variety of backgrounds such as football coaches, sports coaches, playworkers, support workers as full training would be given.

You will be providing 1-on-1 or small group support to students who require additional assistance in understanding lessons, completing classwork or homework assignments, practicing skills etc.

In your new role this will often involve working with students inside and outside of the classroom you will assist students in specific subject areas like reading, writing, maths, science etc. You will also have the opportunity to get involved with outdoor adventure learning and spend time out on trips with the students and PE. The ideal Teaching Assistant will have:

Experience working with young people

Strong classroom management abilities

Creativity, patience, and enthusiasm for working with young students

Key responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant include:

Providing classroom support to teachers during lessons

Working one-on-one or in small groups to deliver tailored instruction

Preparing classroom materials and learning activities

Monitoring student progress and providing feedback

Managing student behaviour and upholding classroom rules

Supervising classrooms, lunch breaks, and school activities as needed
