Teachers have a demanding but rewarding job. Lesson planning, marking, teaching and everything else you must deal with takes up a lot of time and energy making it hard to focus on keeping yourself healthy while juggling your responsibilities. These helpful tips will help teachers balance a healthy lifestyle while also doing their best at school.

Healthy snacks not junk food

Pack a healthy lunch and healthy snacks. Relying on junk food for energy or constantly snacking on them is a quick way to gain weight and feel sluggish. Nuts, carrot sticks, fruit and even unsalted popcorn are all tasty healthy snacks that give you lots of energy and are good for you.

The importance of exercise

Wake up a little bit earlier and get some exercise in before work to get your blood flowing and your heart pumping to start the day on a good note. If you’re not a morning person, then exercise after work, it’s a great way to de-stress, relax and unwind after a hard day. Exercise gives you more energy and the more you do the better you feel. Exercise is also a great way to have some time to reflect on your day.

Make the most of your breaks

Your lunch break is there for you to recharge, and make the most of your breaks. Sit down, relax, and unwind. This is healthy for you both mentally and physically and will refresh you for the second half of your day. Making your breaks matter is an important part of looking after your mental health.

Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed

Excess stress can lead to many illnesses, both physically and mentally, so it’s important to stay on top of your workload and not put yourself under any unnecessary pressure. Stay ahead of your work and household tasks, it may not feel like it at the time, but it can have a big influence on your mental health. Procrastinating is not conducive to a healthy lifestyle for teachers.

Find your passion

Be proud of what you do and remember why you are passionate about teaching. This simple motivational tool can also make you a healthier person by promoting a positive mindset that keeps you excited about what you do. By letting your passion drive you as a teacher you will grow as a person and will make it easier to always do your best.

Stay hydrated

Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Your body needs to be hydrated to function properly. Be sure to keep your water bottle filled and drink regularly.

Sleep matters

Make sure you are getting enough sleep every night. A minimum of 8 hours a night is a good target to aim for. Sleep is your body’s time to rest your body and your brain and it’s a crucial component of a healthy lifestyle.

Hygiene and cleanliness

Teachers interact with a lot of different students, parents, and staff members throughout the day. This means there can be a lot of exposure to germs. When you come home get into the habit of thoroughly washing your hand with hot water up to the elbow. It’s also a good idea to keep your desk sanitised and tidy.

Enjoy your time off

Spend time with your loved ones, work on a hobby that stimulates you and make the most of your time off. A healthy work-life balance is arguably the most important part of leading a healthy lifestyle for teachers.
